Otyokwa - Day 2

Day two started with breakfast in the screened in porch followed by a couple rounds of the game Spot It. We then had cabin clean up time, personal time to get ready for the day, and solo time to answer the daily check in question.

Our tie die shirts were finally ready to be opened and the campers got to see their creative masterpieces (which we’re sure will be showed off when they get home). Next we had a quick slice of banana bread and some peach to snack on while we played a few rounds of the fun game Anomia. We then spent a while making collage clipboards out of magazine clippings and had some good laughs at the funny things we could piece together (somehow the Geico gecko acquired legs and big red lips). Our last activity before lunch was some time in the lake, including playing on the kayaks and doing riddle races.

After eating lunch, we had rest time (for quiet reading, relaxing, and napping) before our afternoon activity of painting pictures frames. Our plan is to take a group photo, wearing our camp t-shirts that we tie dyed, and then put the photo in the frames we painted. It is a multi step process!

We then were sooo hot we ate popsicles before jumping back into the lake to cool off on this warm day. We spent quite a while in the lake because we knew the weather tomorrow doesn’t look quite as sunny and hot…

Next was free time with showers and time to help prepare our dessert of apple crisp. Dinner tonight was burgers, corn, beans, and salad, which everyone enjoyed with warm apple crisp and ice cream to too it off.

After dinner, the campers hung out and chatted in the hammock while the counselors made a campfire and prepared the next activity - journaling. We sat together around the campfire and wrote responses to several prompts that were focused on positive aspects about ourselves and our lives. Some campers chose to share what they wrote, but most appreciated the opportunity to write very personal responses that they could keep to themselves.

We then took a quick sunset dip in the lake to cool off and then settled into a cozy night under a sky full of stars. Looking forward to some rainy day activities tomorrow!
