Camp Chloë 2026 Cookbook

September 1st, 2026

Intro

Hello, my name is Emily, also known as 'Chef Egg' or 'the lunch lady'. I had the pleasure of cooking and gardening for Camp Chloë this summer. The best part was getting to cook and bake with the campers and share meals together outside, overlooking a Twigg Farm sunset. I received lots of requests from campers and parents to share some recipes.

Campers often asked what the secret to my cooking is? I think it all comes down to the French word terroir, which translates to a food's "sense of place" — the idea that taste reflects the specific environment, minerals, and soil where it was grown. We're so lucky to have access to some of the freshest, most delicious ingredients here, and that, combined with just a little bit of love, makes for the best meals.

Here is a compilation of some recipes and meal inspiration from this summer to bring a little bit of Camp Chloë into your home kitchens. The idea is that our food is healthy-ish and inspires campers to think about where their food comes from, and to appreciate the power of food to bring people together, fueling our bodies and souls.

Our Garden

In our garden, we grow over 20 varieties of vegetables and herbs. Twigg Farm is also home to a strawberry and raspberry patch, mulberry trees, grape vines, and an orchard with many varieties of apples, pears, and peaches. We also care for four hens, who provide us with the most delicious eggs.

Every camp meal begins with a trip to the garden, and as the chef this year, I made a point to include at least one (sometimes ten!) items from the garden into every dinner and lunch. It was a goal to engage our campers with the gardening, to help them understand and appreciate where our food comes from. We also give a tour of our compost system to teach campers about a circular food system and how we can work together to reduce food waste.

Campers and staff share all of the meals together. We make sure to light candles and place flowers on every table to make each meal special and show the kids the importance of slowing down, communicating and appreciating good food and good company.
