Work At Growing Routes This Summer!
Hello!
Thank you for your interest in working with us this summer! At Growing Routes, our mission is to provide small-group explorations that nurture confidence, creativity, and compassion. We believe in the power of adventure, connection, and self-discovery to create lasting memories and make a meaningful impact—not just for our campers but for our staff, too.
We are currently hiring for two different positions —
Camp Counselor:
Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor [ Camp Description @ Twigg Farm ]
Location: Twigg Farm in Union, Maine
Employment Dates: June 14 - August 16, 2026
Compensation: Weekly stipend of $400 -1,100 + housing and meals provided
Imagine spending your summer outside on a beautiful farm setting, swimming in the lake at our private beach, hiking through our backwoods trails, and leading activities like campfires, arts and crafts, and group challenges. As a counselor, you’ll be guiding campers through new experiences, encouraging them to explore their potential and build confidence. Growing Routes at Twigg Farm in Union, Maine, is intentionally small, with a maximum of 8-20 campers per session, and we aim to create a relaxed, family-like atmosphere. We enjoy meals together made from garden-fresh ingredients, pick berries to make our own ice cream, and fall asleep to the ancient sounds of loons, crickets, and bullfrogs.
Our days are filled with magical moments, from sharing laughs with our cabin to that early morning shiver before a dip in the lake, to the joy of a perfectly roasted s’more. Each day at camp balances organized activities with the freedom to follow what feels fun in the moment—whether it’s painting by the lake, a hike in the woods, a scavenger hunt, yoga, or just relaxing under an apple tree. Camp is located on 84 acres with woods, fields, gardens, and apple orchard, and a private lake shoreline. It is the perfect place for nurturing confidence, creativity, and compassion.
We are looking for counselors who are passionate about fostering a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment. You’ll be living in a cabin with 6-10 campers and one other counselor (depending on the session), creating a safe and joyful space where each camper can thrive. Because counselors live in cabins with campers overnight, we seek applicants comfortable supervising and supporting girls and gender expansive youth in this setting. We especially value recent high school or college graduates, or those closer in age to campers, to help foster a peer-like experience. This role is ideal if you’re looking to grow your leadership skills, make lifelong memories, and be part of a team working toward something truly meaningful.
If you’re ready for a summer that’s adventurous, impactful, and full of purpose, this role could be the perfect fit!
Chef / Gardener
Job Title: Chef / Gardener [ Camp Description @ Twigg Farm ]
Location: Twigg Farm in Union, Maine
Employment Type: Seasonal (May - August), camp in session during summer
Compensation: Weekly stipend of $700 -1,300 + housing and meals provided
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated person to join our summer camp in Maine as a Chef/Gardener. This individual will be responsible for cultivating and tending to our camp’s garden, providing fresh produce for meals, leading educational programs on sustainable farming and planning, shopping, cooking, and preparing delicious, wholesome meals for campers and staff.
You will play a crucial role in fostering a sense of connection to the environment and the land we live on, teaching campers about where their food comes from, and engaging them in hands-on cooking and gardening experiences.
The Chef/Gardener also plays a vital role in shaping campers’ daily experience and overall well-being. By providing fresh, healthy, and thoughtfully prepared meals, you help campers feel nourished, energized, and cared for—supporting both their physical health and emotional comfort. Meals at camp are not just about nutrition; they are about creating moments of connection, joy, and familiarity. For many campers, particularly those experiencing homesickness, wholesome food and comforting favorites can provide reassurance and a sense of “home away from home,” contributing significantly to their positive perspective on camp and their ability to fully engage in all activities.
Although this role includes a range of responsibilities, it can be tailored to your unique skills and interests. The weekly time commitment will be collaboratively determined by you and the Growing Routes Director, considering the camp's schedule and needs, while limiting the workload to what feels manageable for everyone involved. Your schedule will also allow for ample time to relax and enjoy the lake, explore nearby mountains, connect with the local community, and immerse yourself in the idyllic Maine landscape.
